Readers workshop

Week 8 QQSL

Literature circles

HW: RJ 8.3 Read/IXL for 20-30 minutes & record

The class started as per usual! We walk in, sit in our chairs, and write down the agenda. After that Roxy goes up and reads her blog to the class. When she finishes and sits back down, she starts looking around the room to see who will be her next victim; it was me of course. I make eye contact with Roxy and, I shake my head, showing her not to choose me, but I got chosen. We transition into reader's workshop, and Ms. Nakada then goes around the room checking everyone's reading journals. When we finish with that, Ms. Nakada puts on the lines of this week, "Ain't I a Woman"  By Sojourner Truth. I personally think the first version was better, and so did pretty much everyone else. Sorry, Jerry and, Ms. Nakada. After listening to the lines we then annotate/look deeper into them. After that, discussion we go into literature circles! The bell then rings, after a while. Saved by the bell once again!

Week 8 QQSL

Literature Circles

Homework: Read 8.2/iReady/IXL for 20/30 minutes and record!

I walked into class, setting up my agenda and Taking a Minute with the class.
I took a snooze, before realizing I was picked to write the blog once more--and I didn't even care as much as I used to.
Anyway, Ms. Nakada asked to see our reading journals from the night prior, insisting that we don't lie to our parents about not having homework.
After that, we transitioned into our QQSL which was song, and we listened to the song "***Flawless" by Beyoncé and Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche. The song discussed the discrimination that women and girls face.
Progressing on, we formed into our Literature Circles and discussed with our groups what book we would choose to research and read.
Saved by the bell once again, we packed up and left.

Ms. Nakada asked the class why we were lying to our parents about doing homework due to when it was zoom time and everyone lied to their parents about school.

The class had a discussion about how women are treated unfairly from men in the past, and still even now. We also discussed how this affects out school and the people.

Quote: "The measure of any society is how it treats its women and girls." Michelle Obama

Question: How do you experience both privilege and oppression?

Later on we started literature circles. There are four roles each group will have: 1. predictor 2. clarifier 3. summarizer 4. questioners. The class ended. We all went home.

ㆍAgenda

・Take a Minute

・Blog Corrections

・Readers Workshop/SLC Letters

・Week 7: QQSL

HW: Get SLC Letters read and signed!

I walked into class, and sat down at my desk. I knew that the inevitable was going to come, and impending doom was surrounding me.
Ms. Nakada instructed us to write down the agenda, then sit quietly. Strangely enough, we did not take a minute like we usually did.
After that, Noah was called up to read his blog, for some, it was just a kid reading, but for me it was different. I knew for a fact that mischievous child was going to pick me, and I knew that I couldn't do anything about it.
I was picked. I stood a fight for a bit, stalled some time for myself, but I was forced to sit in the front and click at this computer at the end of it all.
As I sulked, we took out our English notebooks to work on our Student Led Conference letters, which are going to be used tonight. We worked on them for a bit, the classroom staying stagnant, but not silent.
Subsequently, Ms. Nakada announced she would be passing back our previously graded works, and she did just that; though she obviously couldn't pass back 500+ papers on her own and she recruited some students to help.
When all the papers were finally passed back, we went into the last part of QQSL, the lines.

"We Real Cool" Gwendolyn Brooks

This poem was very well made, and perfectly conveys a story with just a few words.
Finally, once we finished QQSL, we packed up early and waited for dismissal.

Book Projects

Homework: Make-up Reading Journals, Book Projects due Tomorrow!

We started off class by writing down our Agenda, and then taking a minute of peace. After that, Larry was called up to read his blog; which was quite descriptive, and I liked it. Unfortunately for me, my streak of luck ran out, and I was automatically chosen as the last blogger after avoiding it for an entire semester.

Next, we began to discuss our 8th grade benefits for the end of the year, and dues on shirts and sweaters for the occasion. On the same topic, we went over a field trip sheet for MB2 Raceway.
After we finished going over the slip as a class, we went into our QQSL.

"Take all the courses in your curriculum. Do the research. Ask questions. Be curious." Katherine Johnson

We had an interesting discussion about the Question, which asked us how we should celebrate President's Day. I personally loved having a day off, but don't really care about the presidents.

After QQSL, we talked about Book Projects, then the bell rang and we packed up.

6. HW: Enjoy the 3-day Weekend!! Hooray!

Everybody walks into class gets seated and take out their binder reminders; at least assume everyone did.  Ms. Nakada then puts the meditation, but Ashkan decides to see if he could get away with eating a whole orange in class. Ms. Nakada turns around, and Ashkan shoves the orange into his mouth.

"Ashkan," the boy with an orange in his mouth replies with, "yes". After he was told to step outside Dianna starts reading her blog to the class, it was perfectly done! So we got a point and, we now are going to have pizza as our class reward! Hot and Steamy! Because Roxy wasn't here I had to do the blog. I was so close to being the last person chosen. One away, just one away. I move my stuff, sit down and, get ready to do the blog. Ms. Nakada gets up and walks around the room checking binder reminders and, reading journals, when suddenly! Noah starts distrusting the class, talking about how his mom should be ok with him having all D's because it's still technically a passing grade. Ms. Nakada asks Noah if he's actually learning stuff in school? Noah shocked by this assumption and, starts defending himself. When Ms. Nakada finishes checking, we then transition into reader's/writer's workshop. So we do just that. Everyone reads, or works on their Inside Out and Back Again essay. Our time is up, Ms Nakada announces to the class that we can now start our Week 6 Quiz. Finally, the bell rings! The school day is over. Saved by the bell once again!
