WEEK 3 Song Lines Quiz

We started off the day like we normally did. We took out our binder reminders, right the agenda. Lunden then read her blog and chose me. I was kinda happy so I wouldn't have to be chosen by anybody else. But my mood was soon destroyed because my paper fell on the floor, but whatever. We started to talk about the a/an rule and when to use. We then took out our School Trip books and started to talk about the end of the book. Ms Nakada started to tell us about how her mom told her not to read a Judy Blume book. She then said that she read it and it had things about ***. She related it to how School Trip has bullying and nobody does it, so why would it affect someone's child. She then said that our parents should decide what we read. We started to talk about how somethings change but others didn't. He gave Kirk a Euro so he could have bigger dreams.

We then got a throw back to New Kid book fair. We started to talk more about idioms. When Mr. Roche was talking to Jordan and Drew and threw in all the Jerry Craft book titles. We then had a small argument on whether the basketball coach was Jordan or a new coach (it was a new coach). We then started to do our three word summary. The three words were fin, change, and interestingly enough Batman. The people who could do the quiz did it, and the people who couldn't, started to pack up.

HW RJ 3.3 School Trip

p. 220-250 & summary

We walked into class. Got our binder reminders out and wrote our agenda down. After that, Ashlyn volunteered to read Enrique's blog, because he was absent. Once, Ashlyn was done reading Enrique's blog, I got chosen to do the blog next. While I started typing my blog, everyone else got out their School Trip books and began to review chapter eight. When reviewing chapter eight, we were talking about how people usually don't stop to look at the stars on the sidewalk in Hollywood. We also talked about how some characters learned new things while being on their trip to Paris. For example, Andy learned to apologize to Ramon. When we finished reviewing chapter eight we got out our English notebooks and wrote down our summary. We then, read the poem of the week, "The Orange" by Wendy Cope and began discussing the poem. We noticed that in the poem there was a rhyme scheme. Ms. Nakada then handed out paper for us to make an invitation for back to school night. We make a little booklet with one side showing our schedules, and another showing a little letter for our parents. The bell rings and we pack up, leaving school once again.

So, today for sixth period, we came into class, sat down, opened up our binder reminders, and wrote down the homework.  Then, Alejandro went up in front of the class and read his blog. What a loser! (literally, just kidding) He then chose me, smh. We took out our notebooks and started writing the RJ, and  then we started reading School Trip.  We discussed the characters and what happened while we were reading. Then, we took our Personal Writing Processes out to then turn them in.

Then, we began to silently read School Trip. After that, we continued our quote, question, song, and lines for week 3.  We began listening to "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rein," by Edith Piaf.  Next, we discussed the song and what it meant and wrote it down in our notebooks.  At the end of class, Ms. Nakada handed out the poem lines of the poem written by Wendy Cope, called "The Orange".

We started off the day with writing the agenda in our planners while doing our meditation. Then, Miles read off his blog. After that, he chose me, Alejandro. We then started correcting his blog. Afterwards, we talked about the personal writing process which is five sentences. Then, some kids didn't take the quiz, so they took it while we were doing the personal writing process. After that, we moved on to the table of contents week three. Then, we did week 3 Quote - Question - Song - Lines. The Quote was by a character in School Trip: "In France, we work in order to live. But in America it seems you live in order to work." Sylvie from School Trip by Jerry Craft.   After, the bell rang randomly, and we left school.

HW: Have a good weekend.

We first went over Devin's blog that had almost no corrections. That was a difference between this class and my old class. Then, I got picked. That was unfortunate.  Then, we started to go over School Trip, and we started to point things out in the book. Next, Enrique interrupted the class to use the bathroom. That was funny.

We then got back to class, we then saw that in the ice cream shop there were a bunch of weird flavors. We then started on our three words. The words were Adventure, French, and Lifestyle. Andy orders a burger and his card declines. Luckily, Maury, is able to pay. Ms. Nakada then checks our reading logs. We then grade our logs. That was cool. Now we turn to our song lines, and I got a paper cut.  We go over our favorite lines. Mine was "You see, war is not the answer." We now go to the Table Of Contents and write some things. We now talk about the writing process, and what we have written in the past years. We also talk about Drafting and Revising. We had a debate on how grammar was written, and we finally took the quiz.

HW: RJ 2.3 School Trip p. 130 - 153 and summary

We walked into sixth period, and I was ready for the day to be over. We took a minute while writing the agenda. When the minute was over, Ms. Nakada made sure and Ms. Nakada called Lena up to read her blog. Ms. Nakada quickly fixed up Lena's blog and asked us to take out School Trip. Lena realized she forgot to call on someone and picked me, traitor.

Ms. Nakada went over chapter six and we discussed the it. Although in the middle of discussion three kids came in and asked to switch his classes. People snickered. Ms. Nakada did not like that. Once she was done we went back to analyzing the chapter. Next, Ms. Nakada turned to the table of contents and wrote the quote of the week by bell hook. We talked about capitalism and social hierarchies. When we finished talking about the quote we starting talking about the question of the week: What do you think about school? We had a very lengthy discussion about the grossness of the school, especially in the bathrooms. After that, we listened to the song of the week: "What's Goin' On?" by Marvin Gaye. We looked over the quote, and the bell rang, finally, and the day was over.

We all walked into class and sat down, brought our binder reminders out, listened to the meditation, and wrote down our work. Then, Ms. Nakada passed out a new book for us while Larry read his blog aloud. He was very nervous, so we all encouraged him. It did not work. After he read, I volunteered and began to write. Then, we all wrote our name on our books. We then began blog corrections, and Ashlyn pointed out that Ms. Nakada had forgotten to take attendance. Then, Ms. Nakada gossiped with us about students and told a story about when she was in school. It was about "Bad Idea Jeans." After, we finished blog-corrections and she gave us some advice about writing. I also complained about the weight of the books, I am still angry about this, Ms. Nakada. Then, we took our School Trip book that we're reading. Then, we began to go over what we read the previous night, we skimmed through and spoke to each other about the contents of the chapter. We spoke about what was going wrong in the story, racism against Maury, and plane etiquette. Then, we came up with our summary. After that, we took a quiz that we'd been trying to take for a week. Finally, we finished, and we were dismissed!

Larry's First Blog

The day started as per usual, we walked into the classroom and sat down to get ready for class. Ms. Nakada reminds us to get our binder reminders out and we do just that. We all got our binder reminders out and wrote down the agenda which was on the board.

AGENDA

After that, Ms. Nakada pulls up the blog, Shadow Money Wizard Gang. Ismael was chosen to write the blog this time; he then reads it to the class and picks the next student. The student was me, Larry. How sad (I'm so cool fyi). After Ismael finishes reading it, Ms. Nakada then asks the class to help with the corrections. During the corrections, Ms. Nakada was talking about how tired we look and how we're sleepy, but in our defense it is sixth period! Anyway, after we finish the corrections Ms. Nakada put the song of the week, "We Are Going to be Friends". Ms. Nakada asks the class about our opinions on the song and if we had a favorite lyric. Some people answered, and so did Ms. Nakada. It was something like "We don't notice how time flies by," something like that. To be honest with y'all, I wasn't paying attention much, but I still think it was a great lyric especially since it got some people to start talking which is always a good thing; usually. Ms. Nakada shows us the poem she passed out earlier, and she read it for us. I just realized I forgot to mention that earlier but I'm too lazy to put it in lol.

The poem was "Wild Geese" by Mary Oliver. Ms. Nakada tells us after some conversation, that we should love what we love, and to be ourselves. We continue to read the poem and annotate it and learn some more about the poem. Despair, its universal. We all experience it, and so is loneliness.  I wish I could put what Ms. Nakada was telling us but my memory is really bad, but I still think what Ms. Nakada told us was something very beautiful and had a really nice meaning to it. We have now finished the poem at this point, and we read it together as a class. Well, most of us did. She even points it out. We took a while to read the poem and run out of time to do the quiz. Hoorayyyyy!! It's the end of school. I hated this so much; jk.

HW: Have a great weekend. STORM WATCH!

We started off the day by writing down our homework in our binder reminders. Then, after we finished, Cash read out his blog and talked about what happened yesterday. When Cash was finished reading out his blog, he chose me to write the next one. Then, Ms. Nakada was talking about how Cash's sister was the one to always correct people on their blog. Right after, we were reviewing chapter three of School Trip. In the beginning of the chapter, we found out that Liam's dad used to work with Mr. Marbury and Liam and Maury used to be really good friends. Next, we took out our notebooks to write three words that best describe that chapter. Once we finished, we took out our letters if we didn't finish it, and if we did would rest until the next thing. Ms. Nakada had us take out our notebooks and finish our Quote, Question, Songs, and Lines. Then, we talked about who and what Ralph Waldo Emerson did and what his quote means. By the end of class we listened to, "We Are Going to be Friends." We packed up, put our chairs up, and left and had a wonderful weekend.

Then, Noah got to pick a person to do the blog for today, and he chose Cash. We started to correct Noah's blog. Nakada began to do the attendance. After that, everyone pulled out their reading journals and started to write a summary for the chapter with our partners at the table. Then, Nakada began to explain the chapter and Jordan's point of view. Also, we noticed how some of the other people in School Trip acted as we read some of chapter three. Then, we wrote the three words that explain the chapter. Next, we started adding to the first day letters for nine minutes. After that was done, we opened our notebooks and went to the table of contents. We wrote what Nakada told us to. Finally, the day ended, and I got to leave!

Today the Shadow Wizard Money Gang started sixth period by taking a minute to breathe. The students used the breathing technique called box breathing. The students then wrote down the homework and agenda. Afterwards, Ms. Nakada had Ashkan read the blog he wrote yesterday to the class. Ms. Nakada then corrected the blog with the super cool class.

Ms. Nakada instructed us to then take out our notebooks, write our names, and the period in our notebooks. Ms. Nakada then took the attendance because she forgot to. After Ms. Nakada did that, she had us write Reading Journal on the very last page of The Shadow Wizard Money Gangs' Journals. The Shadow Wizard Money Gang then goes over page 1-27 of School Trip. They talk about the characters and the story. After we were finished with our journals, we then put our notebooks away, and Ms. Nakada read her letter to us. The Shadow Wizard Money Gang ended the day by writing a first day letter and putting up their chairs.

Ms. Nakada read the blog, and the class corrected the mistakes. Then, after the class corrected the mistakes, Ms. Nakada picked Ashkan to write the blog for today. Everyone gets a School Trip book and says the number of it to the teacher. While Ms. Nakada assigned us reading homework for tonight, she went around collecting the papers she gave us yesterday. Ms. Nakada shows the class what we are reading this year. The teacher gives us our syllabus after forgetting to give it to us yesterday, then she realizes that she already gave it to us and we all had to give it back. She also forgot to take attendance, and we discovered everyone was here, so we got a point. She now gives us an occasional letter and explains what it is. Ms. Nakada reads her letter for us, her new students in the 8th grade, aka Shadow Wizard Money Gang. We pack up and leave.

HW: Return C.O./A.U.P./E.C.

It was the first day of school at Emerson! It was finally sixth period and as students made their way into the room, they found seats based on the letter I assigned. Then, I passed out binder reminders and students labeled them and wrote down the agenda.

After that, we went over the contents of the Welcome Packets with all of the forms that needed to be returned. We also saw reminders about the uniform and phone policy (along with a new "don't order food" policy).

With that school business out of the way, I passed out the Course Outline, and we went over that this was everyone's last first day of middle school. We talked about making sure you have space and quiet to get school work done.

We proceeded through the Course Outline and reviewed materials needed for class. We talked a little about equitable grading and expectations for work habits and cooperation.

The fire alarm went off, again (it also went off in second period). We made our way out to the field and then came back.

After the simple rules for the class, we took a quick look at the syllabus before naming our blog: "Shadow Wizard Money Gang."

Everyone put their chairs up and left school for the day! Welcome back, Class of 2024! It's going to be a good year.
